- ADOBE PREMIERE VERSION 1.0 READ ME
-
- IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Only three sample disks are shipped with Adobe Premiere (not four,
- as stated in the user guide). When you install the sample files, copy all of
- them from each disk into the "Adobe Premiere Samples" folder located
- in the Adobe Premiere folder on your hard drive. (This folder will be
- available if you dragged the entire Adobe Premiere folder from the
- "Program" disk to your hard drive as described in the installation
- procedures.)
-
- Adobe Premiere version 1.0 has no Undo feature. The Undo command
- appears in the Edit menu for use with desk accessories and other
- utilities.
-
- MEMORY REQUIREMENTS
-
- The default memory size as well as the suggested memory size of
- Adobe Premiere is set to 4,000K. The program will run with as little
- 2600K, and you can reset the Application Memory Size value to 2600K.
- If you are running Multifinder or System 7.0 and you have only 4 megabytes
- of RAM, you will need to change the Application Memory Size value to 2600K
- in the Info window. To open the Info window, click to highlight the
- Adobe Premiere program icon, and choose Get Info from the Finder.
-
- The following is a list of features that are not documented in the manual.
- Please make a note of them.
-
- CLIP WINDOW FEATURES
-
- 1. To view only the portion of the clip between the In and Out
- points, hold the Option key while clicking the play button or while
- pressing the spacebar.
-
- 2. When editing a clip in the Clip window that is already placed in
- the Construction window, you cannot change the In and Out points so
- that the clip's duration is longer than the space available in the
- Construction window. Premiere will not allow you to set a new Out
- point. This happens only when the clip you are editing has another clip
- to the right of it in the Construction window.
-
- 3. While working in an active Clip window, you can perform multiple
- edits of the same source clip using the "Add This Clip" command in the
- Project menu (Command-J). A duplicate of the current clip--complete
- with the last In and Out points and markers--will be added to the
- Project window.
-
- CONSTRUCTION WINDOW FEATURES
-
- 1. When you change the time unit in the Construction window, the
- beginning of the selected clip is automatically centered in the window.
-
- 2. When the audio or video tracks in the Construction window are
- hidden, you cannot drag clips with linked sound or video into the
- Construction window. Unlinked clips (selected using the Shift key) and
- clips that have only sound or video will work as usual.
-
- 3. When you drag a clip into the Construction window and place it
- between two other clips in the same track, the clip is automatically
- shortened to fit the duration between the existing clips. This results in a
- new Out point in the Clip window. This is similar to the procedures
- described in the section "Lengthening and Shortening Clips in the
- Construction Window" in the user guide.
-
- OTHER FEATURES
-
- 1. When importing multiple clips into a project, hold down the
- Option key when choosing Import from the File menu. This causes the
- Import dialog box to remain on-screen after you open a file. To close the
- Import dialog box, click Cancel. Note: this option only works when you
- choose Import from the File menu; it does not work when you use the
- Command-I shortcut.
-
- 2. You can toggle the alpha channel in a Photoshop, PICT, or PICS file
- on or off by pressing the Control key while clicking the file's thumbnail
- in the Project window. When the alpha channel is toggled off, you must
- set superimpose options using the Transparency Options dialog box. See
- the user guide for more details on transparency options.
-
- 3. You cannot apply filters to a clip in the Superimpose (Super) track
- if the clip contains an alpha channel. To apply filters, turn off the alpha
- channel as described above.
-
- 4. When reopening projects that have moved or that have missing
- files, you will be prompted to locate the files or skip each one. If you
- want to skip all of the missing files, hold down the Option key while
- clicking the Skip button.
-
- 5. When you use the Transparency Settings dialog box to adjust a
- superimposed image, anti-aliasing (edge smoothing) is applied to the
- image by default. When an image, such as a Photoshop file or a PICT file,
- already contains anti-aliased edges, this feature may cause a halo near
- the edges of the image. In this case, you should turn off the Anti-
- Aliasing option. To do so, uncheck the Anti-Alias Edges option in
- Transparency Settings dialog box.
-
- SOUND
-
- 1. Adobe Premiere saves QuickTime movies that contain both sound
- and video. The default sound unit is one second. This value should play
- smooth audio for most movies, but you can change it to one half or two
- seconds. One half second is best for movies that will be played from CD-
- ROM discs. Two seconds is best for movies that will be played from fast
- hard drives and CPUs.To change the sound unit, press the Option key
- while choosing Output Options from the Project menu or while clicking
- Output options in the Make Movie dialog box. A set of radio buttons
- appears in the upper right corner of the Output Options dialog box. Note:
- the Option key does not work with the Command-] shortcut.
-
- 2. Sounds saved in the SND resource format are compatible with
- Adobe Premiere when the creator type of the file is "sfil." Some
- programs such as SoundEdit save SND with different creator types.
- To make these sound files work with Adobe Premiere, change the
- creator type using a program such as DiskTop.
-
- 3. Adobe Premiere does not support all sound compression options
- from SoundEdit and other software. Only 3:1 and 6:1 compression will
- work with Adobe Premiere.
-
- 4. In an audio Clip window, the updating of the audio wave form
- may not match the rate of play. This is dependent on the speed of your
- CPU and graphics card. For more accurate updating, use the frame
- advance button; this may cause choppy playback, but the wave form will
- display accurately.
-
- 5. AIFF files created with versions of SoundEdit prior to version 2.03
- may not work properly.
-
- MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
-
- 1. FILTER PROBLEMS—Some third-party filters, such as the Adobe
- Photoshop Displace filter, display a dialog box for every frame
- being processed. We do not recommend using these filters with
- Adobe Premiere.
-
- 2. Thumbnails for clips are cached in RAM. Thus, the more RAM
- available to Adobe Premiere, the more thumbnails will be stored, and
- the faster the software will perform. You can also enhance performance
- by saving frequently used clips in a RAM drive. This will help speed up
- even the initial display of thumbnails for a clip.
-
- 3. The Zoom feature in the Print to Video dialog box is only
- supported on SuperMac graphics cards that have hardware zoom. Other
- cards with hardware zoom are currently not supported.
-
- 4. For Adobe Premiere to function properly, QuickTime must remain
- in the System folder (or in the Extensions folder if you are using System
- 7.0) whenever Adobe Premiere is running. If you remove QuickTime,
- you will not be able to open or import clips into Adobe Premiere.
-
- 5. When using an Adobe Photoshop file with an alpha channel, save
- the image in the Photoshop format (not as a 32-bit PICT file as stated in
- the user guide).
-
- 6. Adobe Premiere will create a preview for a PICT or QuickTime
- movie, but not for PICS or Photoshop images. This is a limitation of
- QuickTime.
-
- 7. The maximum width for a clip is 1024 pixels. If you try to import
- a clip with larger dimensions, a dialog box appears telling you to sample
- down the clip.
-
- 8. For a new project, the default location of the Preview, Info and FX
- windows is set from their locations in the last Adobe Premiere project
- prior to quitting the application. To return to the windows’ default
- locations and dimensions, throw away the Adobe Premiere Prefs file and
- restart the program.
-
- TROUBLESHOOTING
-
- 1. If you are running low on memory, some of your thumbnails may
- preview in black. Allocate more memory to the program if possible.
-
- 2. Adobe Premiere requires more memory to create movies with
- larger dimensions. To create a 640x480 movie, you may need to allocate
- 8 megs of RAM to Premiere, or you will receive an out-of-memory
- message.
-
- 3. If you are using System 6.0.7 and you are including a large
- number of files in a project, Adobe Premiere may tell you that it cannot
- add more files. This is a limit imposed by System 6.0.7, and is not a
- problem if you are using System 7.0 or later.
-
- 4. If the audio portion of a movie drops out during play back,
- remake the movie with the Key Framing option turned off in the Output
- Options dialog box.
-
